Beijing digital-map and car-technology company [SeeWay.ai](https://www.seeway.ai/?ref=asia-tech-news.ghost.io) (四维图新) has signed a contract worth about RMB 100.3 million (about US$15 million) to supply roadside sensing equipment at 398 intersections across 190 square km (about 73 square miles) of the city's Fangshan district, the company [said in a post on its WeChat account](https://mp.weixin.qq.com/s?%5F%5Fbiz=MjM5MTc5NTM0MA==&mid=2652086312&idx=1&sn=0d70adf7a028b0009aca1d1071d600ef&ref=asia-tech-news.ghost.io). It didn't name the buyer.

The project is part of the fourth phase of Beijing's "dual smart" (双智) city program, which coordinates smart-city infrastructure with connected vehicles. SeeWay.ai says it is the first roadside-sensing lot it has won as lead bidder in that phase, and that the project's purpose has shifted from supporting self-driving cars toward managing the city and its traffic. Besides delivering the sensing equipment, it will connect the data to platforms run by several departments.

The Fangshan deal builds on earlier work. In the program's third phase, SeeWay.ai was part of a consortium that built the system in Tongzhou district and made high-precision maps covering 660 square km (about 255 square miles).

The company calls 2026 a key window for large-scale commercial use of systems that link vehicles, roadside equipment and cloud computing, as the industry moves from building the systems to deriving value from running them.
