Global shipments of augmented-reality (AR) glasses will more than double to 1.31 million units in 2026, from 620,000 in 2025, research firm [TrendForce](https://www.trendforce.com/?ref=asia-tech-news.ghost.io) (集邦咨询) said in an [Oct. 15 press release](https://www.trendforce.cn/presscenter/news/20261015-13272.html?ref=asia-tech-news.ghost.io) on its latest report. It expects shipments to grow by nearly 80% in 2027\. [Meta](https://www.meta.com/?ref=asia-tech-news.ghost.io)'s Ray-Ban Display glasses have grown faster than the market expected and pushed other brands and suppliers to speed up their plans, the firm said.

Meta will ship about 20% of the total, TrendForce estimates. The next four largest brands, [Xreal](https://www.xreal.com/?ref=asia-tech-news.ghost.io), [Even Realities](https://www.evenrealities.com/?ref=asia-tech-news.ghost.io) (逸文科技), [Rokid](https://www.rokid.com/en-US?ref=asia-tech-news.ghost.io) (乐奇) and [RayNeo](https://www.rayneo.com/?ref=asia-tech-news.ghost.io) (雷鸟创新), will take 53.2% between them. Xreal is based in Beijing and Rokid in Hangzhou. Xreal, which focuses on glasses for watching video, is developing glasses called Aura with [Google](https://www.google.com/?ref=asia-tech-news.ghost.io) that TrendForce expects to go on sale at the end of 2026.

Inside the glasses, two display technologies are set to dominate. TrendForce expects OLED on silicon (OLEDoS) and micro LED on silicon (LEDoS), tiny screens that serve as the glasses' light engines, to account for about 80% of the market. OLEDoS leads slightly, thanks to glasses built for watching video. LEDoS powers lighter glasses that show notifications and other information, but it can't yet show full color.

A third technology with lower market penetration is LCoS (liquid crystal on silicon), which has limited market share through Meta’s products. Meta chose LCoS because full-color microLED isn’t ready yet, display analyst Karl Guttag [wrote in a teardown](https://kguttag.com/2025/10/30/meta-ray-ban-display-part-1-lumus-waveguide-omnivision-lcos-and-goertek-projection-engine/?ref=asia-tech-news.ghost.io). In September 2025, Meta Ray-Ban Display glasses began shipping with LCoS panels for $799\.

Bloomberg [has reported](https://www.techradar.com/computing/virtual-reality-augmented-reality/meta-reportedly-working-on-3-new-smart-glasses-including-ar-specs-due-in-2027-and-an-oakley-branded-pair-just-for-athletes?ref=asia-tech-news.ghost.io) that Meta plans to release full AR glasses, a consumer version of its Orion prototype, in 2027.
