Zijin Longking says mining trucks turned a profit, second assembly line planned
Longking estimates that electric trucks have reached only about 10% of China's mining-truck market.
Zijin Longking (紫金龙净), an air-pollution-control equipment maker in Longyan, Fujian province, says its battery-electric mining truck business turned a profit in the second quarter. Orders for its ZL150E and ZL230E trucks exceed 100, it told investors at an Oct. 15 briefing. Its trucks work so far at mines of Zijin Mining (紫金矿业), the copper and gold miner that controls it, which plans to replace the diesel trucks at all its open-pit mines within three years.
Longking won't say how many it has shipped, the briefing record shows. The one delivery figure we found is Zijin's: 15 of Longking's trucks with a 140-metric-ton payload in the first half, its interim report said. That model, the ZL140E, entered mass production in the second quarter, while the ZL230E and ZL150E were rolled out for testing, Longking's interim report says.
Zijin held 32.55% of Longking at the end of September, Longking's third-quarter report says. Longking's trucks are still a low share of those at Zijin's mines, it says. Outside the group, it is in regular contact with several large Chinese nonferrous-metal miners and is developing a ZL150E for Australia with a local partner.
The trucks sit in Longking's new-energy business, which also includes green power and energy storage and brought in about 36% of first-half revenue, by our calculation. Longking can build 500 trucks per year, and 1,000 once a second production line starts, expected in the first quarter of 2027, it says.
Longking estimates that electric trucks have reached only about 10% of China's mining-truck market, where trucks are replaced about every five years. Driverless versions are in development: EACON (易控智驾), a maker of self-driving systems for mining trucks, said in August it would build driverless dump trucks with a Longking subsidiary on the unit's electric-truck platform.
