Chroma's revenue nearly triples as chip tester sales surge for AI and HPC customers
Chroma credits AI data-center buildout for surging demand for its testers of server power supplies and AI chips.
Chroma ATE (致茂電子), a maker of test equipment in Taoyuan, Taiwan, said third-quarter revenue rose 180% from a year earlier to NT$17.9 billion (about US$552 million). Both main businesses surged, and its chip testers grew faster than its larger power-electronics test line.

Chroma's Oct. 29 results presentation splits revenue by line for the parent company, which brought in NT$14.3 billion (about US$441 million) of the quarter's total. Measurement and automated test equipment, the line that includes Chroma's testers for AI-server power supplies, brought in NT$7.4 billion (about US$229 million), up 147% from a year earlier, or 52% of parent-company revenue. Semiconductor and photonics test brought in NT$6.1 billion (about US$186 million), up 189% from a year earlier, or 42%.
That is the shift Chroma forecast in its July outlook, which named chip testing as the main driver of second-half revenue: from the second quarter, semiconductor and photonics test revenue rose 38%, against 21% for measurement and automated test equipment. It pointed to system-level testing (SLT), which checks a chip under conditions like those in its final system, for AI and high-performance computing.
Chroma's growth has also far outpaced that of the two other listed Taiwanese inspection-equipment makers we track. Its September revenue rose 206.5% from a year earlier to NT$6.86 billion (about US$211 million), its monthly filing shows, against about 47% for the other two combined, by our calculation from the same filings. One of them, Taipei-based Test Research (德律), credited server, networking and chip-industry demand for its September revenue rise of 54% from a year earlier, to NT$868 million (about US$27 million). Test Research, at least, sells inspection systems to electronics makers rather than chip or power-supply testers, so the gap says more about Chroma's mix than about its peers.
Third-quarter operating profit rose 288% from a year earlier to NT$7.2 billion (about US$221 million). Net profit rose only 11%, to NT$5.6 billion (about US$174 million), because the year-earlier quarter included a NT$3.2 billion (about US$98 million) gain from transferring residential land to employees.
At its first-quarter results conference, Chroma said the world's three biggest AI and high-performance computing companies all use its SLT equipment, the Commercial Times (工商時報) reported. Besides Nvidia, it said, AMD and Google would contribute revenue from this year.
