Fujian opens a 649-km charging corridor for electric trucks
Its 23 charging and battery-swap stations sit no more than 100 km apart, and it is the first of eight such routes the province plans.
Electric heavy trucks now have a recharging corridor running north to south through Fujian province. On Oct. 1, a 649-kilometer route covering the whole Fujian section of the Shenyang–Haikou Expressway, from the Zhejiang border at Fuding to the Guangdong border at Zhao’an, opened as the province’s first “zero-carbon transport” demonstration line, with charging or battery-swap stations no more than 100 km apart.
The line has 23 stations for heavy trucks: 15 for charging and eight where drivers swap a drained battery for a charged one, according to Fujian Daily (福建日报).
Fujian built 47 heavy-truck stations from January through September, for 51 in all, and drivers can use any of them with a single scannable code through a provincial platform. Fujian’s provincial expressway company (福建省高速公路集团有限公司), which is building the stations with the provincial Department of Transport, says it plans 66 heavy-truck stations over the course of 2026. The province plans eight such lines totaling more than 3,000 km.
China wants many more such corridors. A Ministry of Transport (交通运输部) official said in July, Xinhua reported, that the country will build about 30,000 km of zero-carbon road freight corridors, and expects new-energy models to reach 40% of the heavy-truck market by 2030, with more than 1.6 million on the road.
