Tongtai says PCB drill orders run through 2027, but September profit drops 77%
The Taiwan machine-tool maker's revenue rose 81% and its pre-tax profit fell 77% in September, both against a year earlier.
Tongtai Machine & Tool (東台精機), a machine-tool maker in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, says orders for its high-end printed circuit board (PCB) drilling machines run to the end of 2027. A drill it showed in October targets AI server boards. So far, rising orders are lifting Tongtai's revenue but not its profit.
The orders come from leading board makers in Taiwan, mainland China and South Korea, and its drilling-machine capacity is full and being expanded, Tongtai said in an Oct. 20 statement reported by Taiwan People News (民報).
At an Oct. 20–22 circuit-board show, Tongtai showed that drill, which uses image recognition to find where to drill integrated circuit substrates and AI server boards, and a drilling station where autonomous mobile robots bring tools and load boards.
By number of machines made, PCB equipment is Tongtai's biggest line. Tongtai has made it since 1988. Its two Taiwan plants built 299 PCB machines in 2025, against 165 machining centers and 106 computer-controlled lathes, its sustainability report says.
In September, Tongtai's revenue rose 81% from a year earlier to NT$706.5 million (about US$21.7 million), which it put down to a recovery in orders this year. But its unaudited September pre-tax profit fell 77% from a year earlier to NT$7 million (about US$215,000), Tongtai told the Taiwan Stock Exchange on Oct. 28. It did not say why profit has declined. Tongtai's net loss over the four quarters to June 2026 was NT$460 million (about US$14.2 million). In a separate filing the same day, Tongtai said a forecast of double-digit growth this year, reported by Economic Daily News, was analysts' own estimate.
Revenue is rising faster at Ta Liang Technology (大量科技), a Taoyuan maker of PCB and semiconductor equipment whose growth we reported on Oct. 17. Its September revenue rose 172% from a year earlier to NT$1.30 billion (about US$40.1 million), against Tongtai's 81%, by our calculation from their monthly revenue filings. Tongtai's total also includes machine tools.
